ARUBI: IT’S A GREAT FEELING
WASHINGTON ARUBI says it was a great feeling to don national colours after he guarded goal in the team’s 0-0 draw against Mozambique on Wednesday.
Arubi had last featured for the Warriors on September 8 2015 when they played against Guinea at home in a Afcon qualifier. And reacting to his return, Arubi said:
“It was a great feeling to represent my nation once more after a long time of being away from the national team colours, I felt very comfortable and enjoyed it so well.
“Yes there was a little bit of pressure, pressure is always there no matter what but I managed to control it,” said the 35-year-old goalkeeper.
Arubi kept Zimbabwe in the match against Mozambique, coming up with saves that saw him showered with praises.
“It was a great game for both sides I think, on our side we played well and managed to come out with a point even though we needed all three points, a point is better than nothing for a start,” said Arubi.
The 2011 Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year is currently playing for Nedbank Cup winners in South Africa’s DSTV Premiership Marumo Gallants.
He was crowned Player of the Nedbank Cup of the Tournament during end of season awards.
Arubi said they have to settle for nothing less than a win this afternoon when the Warriors clash against the Flames of Malawi.
“We have to take it from where we left and keep the momentum to try come out with a better result than that of Wednesday which is thee points; it is going to be a difficult game also but we are prepared.”
