KOFFI OLOMIDE IN TOWN

- Charmaine Chasweka

CONGOLESE rhumba supremo Koffi Olomide is in town on a special visit, thanks to host Prophet Passion.

The 65-year-old, who celebrated his birthday early this week, is set to ‘‘anoint’ ‘the Passion Java Records label as well as forging alliances with artistes from the new music stable.

In an interview with H-Metro Entertainment & Lifestyle shortly after Koffi touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Passion’s most trusted lieutenant Boss Lashan said they were looking forward to a fruitful engagement with the iconic singer.

“Koffi is in the country for a collaboration with Roki. He arrived at PJ Records yesterday and he will be in the country for the next three days.

“Roki and Koffi are set to collaborate on the song ‘Gakanje’ during his threeday visit.

“We expect the two to shoot the video together since Koffi will be around,” he said.

Boss Lashan said Koffi’s visit has come as a major boost to local artistes who

are set to exchange notes with one of the world’s iconic stars.

“As a stable, we are doing our best to promoter local artistes as well as putting Zimbabwe on the world map. Roki is a talented artiste whose fortune had taken a wane and this collaboration is set to catapult him back to acclaim where he belongs,” he said.

The urban grooves star who had reportedly joined the musical cemetery and even retreated to his rural

homes is one of the several artistes being empowered by Java.

For the greater part of the Covid-19 induced lockdown, Passion has managed to bail artistes who lost their sources of income due to the pandemic.

And Roki is no doubt one of the beneficiaries who is cherishing the US-based man of the cloth’s gesture.

Meanwhile, a number of artistes are set to join the stable ‘‘anointed’’ by Koffi Olomide.
