DESIGNER MAKES WAVES ACROSS LIMPOPO
SOUTH AFRICA-BASED fashion designer Effy Mbaimbai is making waves across the Limpopo following the success of the launch of her label.
She has featured twice at the annual Limpopo Fashion Week fête for her awesome designs. The designer said she started designing at the age of 13.
“I have been sewing ever since I was 13 because my mother used to sew uniforms and curtains. I also did Fashion and Fabrics in high school so sewing is something that I loved very much and be-cause of my love for fashion I had a retail business that had three stores in Zimbabwe supplying ladies clothes from 2016-2019.
“I then stopped since I felt I needed to bring in something new and different,” she said.
The designer stated that she then went on to enrol with designing schools to perfect her designing skills. I am also running my transport and logistics business.
“My brand is inspired mostly by my kids names Miranda Jade, Michaela Grace, Mia Daisy and Prince.
“The name itself is a combination of their names hence MMMP on the logo.
“The mission for us is to create a great bonding experience for families through fashion and that’s why we create a lot of family matching outfits, mommy and me or daddy and me or couples matching outfits.
“So our target market are families who want to stand out at any given occasion and we also cater for princess’ birthday giving them a fairy ball gown of choice,” she added.
She also said the outfits will be in the form of themes.
“Some of them are themed baby shower or preggy shoots outfits to remember.
“We also do Roora Day dress which should just not be a boring African print dress, we provide modern brides with trendy designs that will definitely make them feel special on their big day. I love seeing my clients excited after their fitting and how their confidence changes immediately, it makes me feel very much honoured because dressing up someone is not just about clothes, it has a lot to do with their confidence and appearance,” she added.
