Zimra official releases album

- Latwell Nyangu

JOVIAL Sounds leader Edmore Zviripi has released a nine-track album titled “Chapwititi”.

The 40-year-old Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) employee says the album is a mixed bag of sungura, jiti, soul, Chimurenga and gospel.

Zviripi says he is inspired by the late singing drummer Marshall Munhumumwe.

“My music is a one stop album catering for all since some enjoy gospel while some like prefers other types of music.

“I discovered my talent while I was at Mutare Polytechnic and I dream big in this industry.

“I can also paint, design logos and am into print art and my compositions come in the form of dreams before I write all my songs,” he said.

The singer says he hopes to grow in the local arts industry and hail the sungura ace Alick Macheso.

“Macheso must live long and entertain the world and I also respect Thomas Mapfumo, the late Oliver Mtukudzi, Biggie Tembo just to name a few,” he added.

The album “Chapwititi” opens with a song Tendai Musiki where praises the creator for all his gifts including a good job.

“The song ‘Chapwititi’ sees a man travel all over the world in search of real love only to find it back home.

“‘Handicheuke’ explores the common life of lovers who meet several challenges in life including jealousy. The man in ‘Handicheuke’ reassures his partner he won’t look any further.

“‘Zvangu Zvauya’ is a pure Chimurenga beat which maintains rhythmic mbira and a blend of Christian gospel to traditional spirit appeasement in one.

“It is a song inspiring people to follow their dreams just like Joseph in the bible and several leaders have done. I mention our traditional totems like the big five animals to include our historical ways of worshipping our Gods,” Zviripi said.

Ananias and Sapphira is a song on the rise of false prophets and enrichment of oneself by robbing innocent believers.

Among other songs on the album are Jikinya, Rova Ngoma, Hwendefa , Ananias and Sapphira , Our Children.
