CHIBHANZI DROPS MUSOROBHANGU
CHITUNGWIZA based crooner Sifelilizwe “Chibhanzi” Shumba says ‘‘ordained’’ artistes don’t easily disappear from the radar.
The 46-year-old, whose music is a creative blend of hard-hitting and yet comic punchlines, has also dispelled social media claims he might have joined the musical cemetery.
Famed for the hit song “Vachibhanzi Vauya” which made him a household name 16 years ago, the Mberengwa born musician said he still has plenty to offer.
As such, the Peps Kings boss has dropped a humour-laden seventh track album titled “Musorobhangu”.
The name “Musorobhangu” is a street lingo referring to ‘‘hotheads’’, comic figures and attention-seeking blokes in society.
Recorded at Truetone Studios under the aegis of Jabulani Ndlovu, the album was engineered and mixed by veteran producer Bothwell Nyamhondera.
It carries five tracks namely “Rudo Rwemari”, Baba naMai”, “Chimende”, “Tambarare” and the titled track, “Musorobhangu”.
In an interview with H-Metro, Chibhanzi said has vowed to continue giving fans refreshing music.
“I’m one person who enjoys humour a lot, I always make sure that I am surrounded by happy people to ensure that I live longer.
“I have been fusing my music with comic punch lines to ensure that I identify with current generations and I am happy that I am doing what I want most. I’m also happy with the release of my seventh studio album ‘Musorobhangu’ which is already popular with sungura lovers,” he said.
On claims he was a one-hit wonder, Chibanzi laughed off: “I’m no one hit wonder and the fact that people know that Chibhanzi exists means a lot to me.
“The people who want to ridicule me are the ones who give me the energy and zeal to record more powerful music.
“I will continue doing myself as an artiste to ensure that I win their back.
“I’m also in the midst of shooting a video to the song ‘Musorobhangu’ which I hope will complement my audio very well.
“Nowadays good visuals have changed the lives of several artistes out there and it is my wish to also make these inroads.”
On his thoughts regard the Covid-19 effects on artistes, he added: “This pandemic has come as a blessing in disguise for us as we need to improvise and ensure that we survive and remain relevant.
“We have since embraced online platforms where music is being sold nowadays.
“On that note, I would like to thank a number of people among them Polite Moyo who have been encouraging me to record and invest a lot in social media.
“Polite Moyo has also been encouraging me to continue recording and releasing new stuff.”
To date, Chibhanzi has seven albums to his credit and has vowed to continue churning out new music. Besides the 2021 production ‘‘Musorobhangu’’, he announced his arrive on the music landscape at the turn of the new century with the release of ‘‘Unovhira Nei’’ in the year 2000.
It was followed by ‘‘VaChibhanzi’’ in 2004, Zai Regondo (2005), Tiri Vatadzi (2015), Ndezve Nyasha (2016), Shumba YeMberengwa (2019), which carries the hit song Kwesha Maná.
