Murambadoro rallies Mapisa
FORMER Warriors goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro has urged fans to be patient with goalkeeper Martin Mapisa.
Mapisa faced a lot of criticism last week after a poor show when Zimbabwe lost 2-0 against Senegal at the just-ended Cosafa Cup tournament.
In an interview with H-Metro yesterday Murambadoro justified Mapisa’s error.
“Anybody can have a bad day in office, those things happen I won’t blame him, he can only grow from such mistakes.
“Looking at his age people need to be patient with him and I believe for him to be playing in the national team the coaches saw he is capable,” he said.
Mapisa, 22, plays for Zamora in Spain’s Sagunda B.
Murambadoro said the youngster needs encouragement.
“The youngman needs encouragement from us former goalkeepers because we have been there and we used to make mistakes as well but you learn and move on.
“Goalkeeping is not for the faint hearted I am sure he is a strong boy mentally and he will bounce back.
“I remember my playing days, every game I used to play had its own pressure, it was generally how I would deal with it that could determine how I would perform,” said Murambadoro.
Murambadoro went on to applaud Washington Arubi on his return to the national team.
“Arubi has proved to be a top keeper over the years and his return to the national team is most welcome, we need his experience. Like I said earlier, goalkeeping is not for the faint hearted and Arubi proved he is not one with a faint heart,” he said.
The Chicken Inn goalkeepers’ coach He added: “I think the net for selection should be cast even wider, like here at Chicken Inn I think we have one of the best keepers at the moment, Benard Donovan and I think he should be in the mix for the number one jersey, his works can tell.”
Donovan is the only goalkeeper who finished the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup games with successive clean sheets in all the matches for his side.
