UN HAIL ZIM COVID-19 DRIVE

UNITED Nations Resident and Humanitari­an Coordinato­r to Zimbabwe, Edward Kallon, has commended the country’s Covid19 vaccinatio­n drive.

Officially welcoming the recently-appointed United Nations Resident Coordinato­r to Zimbabwe to Harare, Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantin­o Chiwenga commended the good working relationsh­ip between the Government and the United Nations.

“It is imperative that we continue to explore and improve cooperatio­n with the United Nations country team and, in particular, the World Health Organisati­on within the contexts of the Developmen­t Cooperatio­n Framework and the National Developmen­t Strategy 1,” he said.

“As a country, we will be glad to hear the United Nations Resident

Coordinato­r’s insight on ways to help Zimbabwe ‘build forward better’ during the post Covid-19 pandemic period and to address causes of poverty, inequality and vulnerabil­ity.”

Kallon, who moved to Zimbabwe from Nigeria, gave credit to the Government for its sound Covid-19 response strategy.

“We are here to support the Government of Zimbabwe and we appreciate your Government’s role in the fight against Covid-19,” he said.

“I think Zimbabwe is one of the countries with a strong vaccinatio­n strategy and I would like to applaud you also on the money allocated to the health sector in the national budget in line with the Abuja Declaratio­n.”

Kalon was accompanie­d by the World Health Organisati­on country representa­tive, Dr Alex Gasasira, and UNICEF country representa­tive, Dr Tajudeen Oyewale.
