UN HAIL ZIM COVID-19 DRIVE
UNITED Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator to Zimbabwe, Edward Kallon, has commended the country’s Covid19 vaccination drive.
Officially welcoming the recently-appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator to Zimbabwe to Harare, Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga commended the good working relationship between the Government and the United Nations.
“It is imperative that we continue to explore and improve cooperation with the United Nations country team and, in particular, the World Health Organisation within the contexts of the Development Cooperation Framework and the National Development Strategy 1,” he said.
“As a country, we will be glad to hear the United Nations Resident
Coordinator’s insight on ways to help Zimbabwe ‘build forward better’ during the post Covid-19 pandemic period and to address causes of poverty, inequality and vulnerability.”
Kallon, who moved to Zimbabwe from Nigeria, gave credit to the Government for its sound Covid-19 response strategy.
“We are here to support the Government of Zimbabwe and we appreciate your Government’s role in the fight against Covid-19,” he said.
“I think Zimbabwe is one of the countries with a strong vaccination strategy and I would like to applaud you also on the money allocated to the health sector in the national budget in line with the Abuja Declaration.”
Kalon was accompanied by the World Health Organisation country representative, Dr Alex Gasasira, and UNICEF country representative, Dr Tajudeen Oyewale.
