-

AGELESS Zimbabwe international midfielder, Willard Katsande, is one of the oldest goalscorers in the South African Premiership this season.

The Sekhukhune United midfielder was 35 years, nine months, 12 days, when he scored against Amazulu on October 27, last year.

He is one of the golden oldies who have been on target in the current championship campaign.

His former Kaizer Chiefs teammate, Bernard Parker, is the other member of that elite group.

Parker was 35 years, eight months, 5 days, when he scored against Maritzburg United on November 21, last year.

Orlando Pirates skipper, Happy Jele, was 34 years, nine months and one day, when he scored against Cape Town City on October 2, last year.

Thamsanqa Gabuza of SuperSport United was 34 years, three months, 24 days, when he scored against Marumo Gallants on November 20, last year.

Other Golden Oldies who have been on target are Thamsanqa Mkhize of Cape Town City who was 33 years, one day, when he scored against Royal AM in August last year.

Ndumiso Mabena of Royal AM was 34 years, three months and six days when he scored against Cape Town City on August 25, last year.

Mbulelo Wambi of Swallows FC was 33 years, seven months and 28 days, when he scored against Royal AM on August 22, last year.

Amigo Memela was 34 years, one month and one day when he scored for Amazulu against TS Galaxy on August 25, last year.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns gunman Peter Shalulile’s goal count continues to elevate him towards a myriad of milestones in his career.

On Tuesday, Shalulile struck goal number 50 for Sundowns which ranks as the quickest dash to a half-century of goals by a player attached to a new club playing in the top division of South African football through the PSL era years.

Shalulile has needed 80 games to score his 50 goals at Sundowns having joined at the beginning of last season from Highlands Park.

The Namibian scored 22 last season and has reached 28 this term.

He has scored 22 in the league this season and needs three from the last three against Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch, and Royal AM to match Collins Mbesuma’s long-standing record of 25 which was achieved in the 2004/05 season.

Shalulile has now scored more goals in the league than seven clubs namely Baroka (16), Swallows (18), Maritzburg United (18), TS Galaxy (21), and Chippa United (20), Marumo Gallants (20) and Sekhukhune United (19).

Furthermore, the Sundowns scoring machine has pushed himself up the ladder in the all-time PSL scoring charts that he is now fifth on the list of those still playing top-flight football.

He has a total of 77 goals through his time in the PSL having scored 27 for Highlands Park in the time when they were playing in the top division.

Only Khama Billiat (97), Lehlohonolo Majoro (89), Bradley Grobler (87) and Bernard Parker (83) have more goals than him from the cast still playing in the PSL.

Shalulile is only playing his fifth season in the top division of South African football.

He is now 46 goals away from matching Siyabonga Nomvethe’s PSL all-time high which stands at 123. — Sports Reporter/KickOff. com
