Khama should get a SA coach

KHAMA BILLIAT and his Kaizer Chiefs teammates should get a South African coach ahead of the new campaign.

The Zimbabwe international thrived under his last South African gaffer, Pitso Mosimane, at Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, he has struggled to make a similar impact at Kaizer Chiefs.

The Amakhosi interim coach, Arthur Zwane, feels the club should recruit a South African coach.

He believes the Glamour Boys should follow the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates to go for local coaches ahead of the new campaign as they understand players better than foreign coaches.

Sundowns are the most dominant team in the DStv Premiership after securing their fifth league in a row under the guidance of local mentors.

All the five straight titles for the Brazilians have been won under the guidance of South African coaches.

During that same time, Pirates and Chiefs have flirted with a number of foreign coaches but with very little success to show for their efforts.

Pirates are now under a local coach and they have set one foot in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We have to empower our own people. We start there, we have to empower our own people. We have to groom our coaches,” Zwane said.

“I mean, teams like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, as you can see, there is coach Fadlu [Davids] there, there is coach Mandla [Ncikazi] there.

“Just a little bit of patience, and things will change for the better.”

Zwane says it’s time Amakhosi get a local mentor as there are good coaches who can do great work.

“But also, this side, we have good coaches that can come and help Kaizer Chiefs, why not?

“Look, our coaches understand where these players come from.”

“We are dealing with a lot of sensitive issues in this country, and a lot of people take those things for granted.

“And I can tell you, we have so many challenges as a nation, let alone life in general.

“So, you have to know where these boys come from.”

Amakhosi parted ways with veteran coach Stuart Baxter last month.
