Rihanna producer targets local music industry

- Arron Nyamayaro

RIHANNA’s multi-platinum producer, Curtis Richardson, says he sees a lot of potential in Zimbabwean musicians.

He is also Jennifer Lopez’s songwriter Robinson says he will explore the possibility of collaborating with some of the local stars.

“Having written and produced so many genres in different parts of the globe, I am very intrigued by the art and culture expressed in Zimbabwe,” said Robinson.

“My friend and colleague, Zimbabwe’s own Charles Myambo, has been so generous in exposing the incredible Zimbabwean talent currently emerging. I have been following a number of Zimbabwean artists, such as Anita Jaxson, Gemma Griffiths, Amara Brown, Enzo Ishall, Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Holy Ten, Nutty O, Pheelz, Ex Q, and Jah Master to name but a few.

“All of them possess such incredible qualities and original identities in their musical style and artistic display.

“I look forward to possibly collaborating with one or a few of them in the future and wish them all the best as they forge forward to take over the world. What I noticed most about Zimbabwean artists is their ability to display the richness of their culture in their visuals and music.

“Zimbabwean artists are electric in frequency, vibrant in spirit and distant in rhythm, melody and tempo.

“I have worked in different parts of Africa before but Zimbabwe has its own distinction and I love that, no matter the dialect, you can still feel the essence of the music through the infectious melodies, rhythm and beat.”

Robinson said Myambo, one of the best-selling Zimbabwean authors based in the United States, introduced him to Zimbabwean music.

He has also become a regular follower of the H-Metro social handles.

He expressed his willingness to partner with Zimbabwe Newspapers television, radio and print so as to keep much closer to Zimbabwean artists. Robinson has written and produced tracks for superstars like Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, David Guetta, Tiesto, John Legend and several others.

Myambo said many international stars have shown interest in the Zimbabwean music industry and the potential which the sector possesses.
