Gunmen’s loss of form affect CAPS, Manica

- Bruce Chikuni

THE sudden drop of form by the duo of CAPS United’s hitman William Manondo and Manica Diamond’s Nyasha Chintuli has impacted their clubs badly.

The two, who are jointly leading the Golden Boot race with nine goals apiece, have gone for four games without a goal.

Makepekepe have lost their last three games on the bounce. The Gem Boys, who enjoyed a good start to the campaign, have now won just once in their past seven fixtures.

The Green Machine are 13 points behind the leaders while the Gem Boys are six points off the pace. Chintuli said this was normal in football.

“Yes, it concerns me because I’m here to score goals, when you are not scoring, you tend to think a lot, giving yourself unwanted pressure,” said Chintuli.

“It’s normal in football but I believe it’s a matter of time before things return to where they should be.

“It’s important not to despair at this moment, the night is still too young for us to lose hope.

“I’m very confident, it can’t be life without challenges, and these are the tough times which one encounters along the way.

“It’s a test which I’m going to overcome.

“Despite this goal drought, my objective remains the same, I’m determined to give my best to win the Golden Boot.”

The Gem Boys are set to host Black Rhinos at the weekend. Chauya Chipembere are unbeaten in their last four assignments. “It’s a tough match, we are using the same stadium as our home ground so I can’t say we have the home advantage,” he said.

“We are going to try to rediscover our form, we need to start now, it’s good that we are still in the title race and we have the quality to turn things around.

“We are not under any pressure to collect maximum points but we are just going to make this one count.”
