Gospel singer challenges mothers

- Latwell Nyangu

GOSPEL singer and fashion designer, Privilege “Pinky” Gutu, has challenged mothers not to be deterred by their motherly roles as they pursue their dreams.

She believes being a mother is not a barrier for female singers to reach their targets.

The singer, whose inspiration comes from gospel sensation Janet Manyowa, conceded that at times it’s difficult to balance business and motherly roles.

“Time is sometimes a challenge as I try to balance business, music and playing motherly roles.

“Despite that I am planning on working harder to rise above the challenges. My husband, Lovejoy Gutu, is my source of support,” she said.

Her journey goes back to 2019. “I started loving music at a young age and I would sing along to songs on the radio.

“Growing up, it was not like I made time for music but by then I was just like any other kid who loved music.

“At a later age, I realised my love for music could become a reality,” she said.

Pinky started off by singing with small acapella groups.

“I started off in small acapella singing groups, with other youths from church, and recorded a couple of songs with groups Redeemed and Experience.

“It was in 2020 that I then decided to go solo, during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the help of my managers, Canary TV.

“I also recorded a single titled Iva Gamba in 2021 October at Eternity Production by McDee.

“My inspiration comes from Janet Manyowa and Judikay, among other singers. I plan to collaborate with other female artists in the music industry and would like to be recognised internationally in the next five years,” she said.
