SPARE a thought for CAPS United.

The Green Machine lost their fourth straight Castle Lager Premiership match at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

They are now just three points above the relegation zone. They have the second worst defence among the teams in the safe zone.

Bret Amidu scored the only goal of the game as the Green Machine fell at the hands of Chicken Inn, who took over pole position on the table.

Chicken Inn coach, Joey Antipas, said he was happy to be back to winning ways.

“First of all, it was good to get the three points against a spirited CAPS side although they’re having issues but they still put up a good performance,” he said.

“I thought it was a bit nervy in the end but we managed to hold on for this victory.

“I thought we managed the game quite well in the second half, we managed to create some chances, we didn’t put them away but that’s the nature of the game.

“I thought we did well defensively, we were solid at the back and also in midfield.

“We struggled with our precision, we gave the ball unnecessarily.

“But, all in all, I’m happy with the three points and we will just prepare for our next game against Yadah, we’ve been going through quite a rough patch in the last four games, one win, three draws and a loss. “So it’s good to be back on the winning track,” he said.

CAPS United coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, said they need to dig deeper to start collecting maximum points.“From the performance point of view, I thought it was a good performance compared to the other games that we’ve played.

“I feel for the boys, they gave their all but, unfortunately, it was never meant to be and what else do we have to do?

“We just have to make sure we dig a bit deeper and focus on the other games that are coming up.

“As far as I know, there’s no situation that is permanent and we just have to change it, no one else will do it for us, it’s only us who can take ourselves out of the situation.

“So far so good, the most disappointing is that it’s a situation that we could’ve avoided.

“At some point at the start of the season, after having played about five games we were trailing with about 13 points but we did manage to close the gap to about six points.

“Unfortunately, after the incident of two weeks ago, all hell broke loose and it’s difficult to regain the form that we had before the disturbances.”

He said getting his boys to their earlier form was a process and he was committed to help them.

“It’s not a tall order, this is the reason why we are here and it’s one of our responsibilities to make sure we keep players focused on what we are supposed to do.

“It is our duty but it is a process, you know some of these things have really stuck into their heads.”
