BUSINESSMAN DISMISSES JUJU CLAIMS
. . . URGES YOUTHS TO VENTURE INTO BUSINESS
A CHINHOYI businessman, Mackenzie Chauruka, popularly known as Madhawu, has dismissed claims circulating in the town that his thriving businesses were being fuelled by juju.
Chauruka, told H-Metro he started his businesses 12 years ago at Kamazongororo, Kaminza, in Guruve.
He said he sold clothes and basic foodstuffs to gold panners.
Along the way, he claimed, he ended up being broke, three times, but refused to throw in the towel. Chauruka then ventured into farming and running some tuck shops, before relocating to Mhangura, where he started a wholesale.
“People would ask me what a wholesale was all about and I had to explain to them the concept behind a wholesale,” said Chauruka.
After some time, he decided to try his luck in Chinhoyi.
“I started with one shop and I now have a couple of them. All this is due to hard work and God’s grace,” he said.
He dismissed claims his businesses were being powered by juju.
“Vanhu kumusha vanofunga kuti mabhizimisi angu ose hazvisi zvoga chete asi kuromba,” he said.
“Inyasha dzomusiki adai kuti ndisvike pandiri nhasi.”
Chauruka said he was a hard worker and his dream was to contribute to the growth and development of the nation.
However, he appealed to the Government to help struggling small-scale businesses with loans.
“I want to appeal to the Government to grant us loans so that we can contribute to the growth of the economy,” he said.
Chauruka said he sometimes ploughs back into society as a way of thanking the Almighty for his flourishing businesses.
“I give back to society when there is a need. It is very important to give back to society.
“I want to thank all the people of Chinhoyi, and surrounding areas, for having confidence and trust in us.
“I want to urge the youths to venture into entrepreneurship for them to be successful in life.”
Chauruka thanked Budget Investments for bailing him out when his businesses were struggling. He urged the business community in Chinhoyi to be united.
However, he bemoaned the distortion in the exchange rate.
“I hope the Government is going to intervene and put corrective measures to all this madness,” said Chauruka.
“My wife is my pillar of strength, she motivates me and inspires me.”
Chauruka has seven children.
