Wadi shines for JDR Stars

- Blessing Malinganiza

ISHMAEL Wadi says he is aiming for the golden boot after scoring a brace as JDR Stars crushed TTM 5-0 in the South African National First Division on Sunday.

Wadi is now the top scorer in the South African second-tier league with eight goals after 15 matches.

The huge win moved JDR into third place on the league table with 27 points.

They’re now just three points behind log leaders Polokwane City, who are tied on 30 points with Casric Stars.

“I’m happy with the three points we collected as well as the goals that l scored.

“Now I am the top goal scorer and that’s something which excites me.

“But I don’t deserve the praise, only God can take the glory. He is the one who made everything possible and I’m grateful to him.

“I also want to thank teammates, because it’s not an individual effort. They all contribute to how I play as we try to achieve the team’s targets. The goal is to keep on working hard, assist my team in any way I can and also get the golden boot.

“It’s every forward’s wish to get one and I am going to put my all into this to secure it,” he said.

The 29-year-old has started in 14 out of the 15 league games his side has played this season.

“My season has been okay, as I have been a regular here.

“I think it’s something every player wants, getting some game time, and I’ve been doing that.

“So I can’t complain. I am trying to work hard in training, follow the coach’s instructions and improve myself as a player because that’s the goal,” he said.

His countryman, Temptation Chiwunga, also starred for JDR in the same game.
