Chafa predicts better season for CAPS

- Bruce Chikuni

CAPS United midfielder, Devon Chafa, says players are noticing some financial stability at the club.

It might be too early to conclude that Makepekepe’s financial challenges are over, but it’s also worth noting that all appears to be well.

They have retained almost 91 percent of their squad, which is enough to suggest that things could be looking up.

Chafa was one of the club’s most consistent players last season despite being criticised when he re-joined the club from Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Like a veteran, he never missed a match and coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, deployed him as a centre back in some critical fixtures.

Chafa said the club’s leadership has assured them that the tough days are now in the past.

“We have started pre-season and it’s tough, but we will endure. That’s how it is after a long break.

“A lot has changed and the team’s directors have emphasised and assured us of brighter days. We are now fighting and pushing ourselves to explore all avenues to regain lost pride,” said Chafa.

Chafa stressed that the club’s fans have a big role to play in helping the players rediscover their form.

Last season, a section of fans switched sides and turned their back on the players who they blamed for under-performing.

In one game, CAPS United fans cheered Yadah Stars’ players after losing 0-1.

“We have the capacity to push for honours, we just have to believe in ourselves and carry on from where we left off last season. Our fans have to come in numbers and assist us by all means necessary to turn the tables,” he said.

“We have to remain in control of the situation and avoid what we don’t have control over. I’m very confident of better fortunes this coming season. We are going to fight for lost pride. To me it’s about the team which we represent and we have to defend the badge with honour.”

CAPS United have also convinced Dynamos’ industrious defender, Godknows Murwira, to join the club.

William Manondo, who won the Castle Lager Premiership Golden Boot, is still undecided over his future.

Reports are linking him to two Zambian Premiership sides, Zanaco and Nkana FC.

Bulawayo Chiefs anchorman, Kelvin Madzongwe, is also reported to be on his way to Makepekepe.

Ngezi Platinum Stars reject, Last Jesi, is also rumoured to be on the verge of joining the club.
