- Talent Gore and Ashley Mujoma

GOVERNMENT has lifted the suspension of Zebra Kiss buses’ operator’s licence with immediate effect after the company complied with regulations.

Rimbi Travel and Tours remains suspended.

The Government suspended the licences of Rimbi Travel and Tours and Zebra Kiss buses after an accident which claimed the life of a conductor and left seven passengers injured while the drivers were racing for passengers.

The incident happened at the 160km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road when the Rimbi Tours coach driver who was closely following the Zebra Kiss bus, rammed into a tipper truck.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona announced that Zebra Kiss had complied with the ministry’s regulations.

“We wish to advise the public that the ministry has lifted the suspension of the licence for operation of all omnibuses belonging to Tashllyt Investments trading as Zebra Kiss.

“The lifting of the suspension follows the submission of comprehensive measures that have been put in place by Tashllyt Investments to avert such incidents in future,” said Minister Mhona.

The Ministry said the decision was made after many different considerations.

“After a meticulous consideration of the submission, the Ministry was satisfied that the measures that have been mainstreamed by the operator are adequate to checkmate recurrence of operational behaviours which can be interpreted as violations of terms and conditions of the licence.

“The Ministry will continue to enforce and monitor compliance with the terms and conditions of all operators’ licences, including measures against reckless and negligent driving.”
