‘Simba Bhora is a calculated move’

- Bruce Chikuni

A LOT has been said about individually owned teams that have struggled to stand the heat in the Castle Lager Premiership.

In the last decade and a half, teams like Motor Action, Monomutapa and Gunners came and conquered the Premiership but they all went defunct due to financial calamities.

Pundits tipped Bulawayo Chiefs to win the league championship last week after they unveiled high-profile players, but midway through the campaign, their stable was rocked by on-and-off players’ revolts.

The Ninjas have now lost almost 90 percent of the players they had assembled last season and they are currently recruiting unheralded players, which some analysts have pointed out as an indication of financial woes.

Many are predicting a similar ending to new boys, Simba Bhora, as they fear that the club might struggle for longevity.

But club president, Simba “Buju” Ndoro, is adamant that his project is a well calculated move.

Ndoro started the year with some serious business.

In the current transfer window period, Ndoro has splashed US$50 000 on signing on fees and the team is still looking to make a few additions before the transfer window closes.

The Shamva-based side is also racing against time to complete the renovation of Wadzanai Stadium before the local league commences next month.

At least US$200 000 has been invested on the refurbishment of Wadzanai, and Ndoro revealed that they are also building players’ accommodation.

“I have a vision for this team and I want to guarantee all Simba Bhora fans that this project is here to stay,” said Ndoro.

“It’s proven that individually owned teams always struggle in the top-flight league, but as Simba Bhora, we have drafted a different approach.

“I’m confident that Simba Bhora will one day win the league title. It might not be this season, but that is our dream,” Ndoro said.

Simba Bhora fans are also going to have a huge say in keeping their ship moving, as Ndoro reiterated that the team belongs to the Shamva community.

“We made this history together with the massive support from the Shamva community. It’s their team and I can guarantee you that they will never allow this project to collapse.

“The longevity of this team in the top-flight league will be based on the determination of the fans and that’s why we are moving with speed in renovating Wadzanai Stadium because we don’t want our home fixtures to be played elsewhere,” said Ndoro.
