SARUNGANO EURO BOUND

- Trust Khosa

`AFRO fusion musician, Innocent “Sarungano” Kufakunesu, believes he is now reaping the rewards for hard work and consistency.

The crooner has been invited for his maiden tour of Europe next month. Sarungano, a product of Pakare Paye, under the great tutelage of the late Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, is set to perform in Ireland on June 16.

His performance, which is set for Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne County, will coincide with the Day of the African Child celebrations.

He will share the stage with Ngoni Kambarami and Zim dancehall chanter, Quonfuzed.

Speaking to H-Metro, Sarungano could not hide his elation.

“I promise to give the people who are coming for the gig a memorable experience that will start an everlasting touring relationship.

“I have been longing for a European tour and I believe my dream has come true. This tour is special for us as a camp as it marks the beginning of more things to come.

“In short, I am excited to be going for my maiden European gig where I will perform in Ireland,” he said.

His manager, Eugine Museredza, was equally excited ahead of the tour.

“As a camp, we are excited when people invite us for such overseas tours. The invitation is a show of faith by international promoters, who enjoy our brand.

“We are going to deliver our best and ensure that we give fans value for their money,” he said.

Museredza, who parted ways with Mbeu after a seven-year stint, believes Sarungano is now a mature musician.

“We are also grateful to the late Tuku who made sure that Sarungano realises his potential.

“Tuku used to teach him to be original and believe in himself, which is now paying off.

“This international tour is a clear sign that we have people who believe in his music,” he said.

Sarungano, who leads The Story Tellers Band, enjoys a close relationship with the Tuku family.

He is currently riding high with his spiritually-uplifting track named Rugare Ngaruwande, featuring Mabasa eVatumwa.

The song is currently doing well on the air waves. He is also active on social media where he constantly engages his fans and hears their feedback.

A fast learner and creative genius in his own right, Sarungano is one of the polished diamonds which emerged from Pakare Paye.
