Players refuse to fulfil match over US$2 allowance
A DIVISION Two coach claims his players refused to fulfil a match after the club’s leaders offered them a US$2 allowance for an away game.
He was subsequently fired for allegedly leading the revolt.
Francis Chigirinya was in charge of Kariba Waves Strikers, who have played in Division One, in the past.
“The boys told me that they were not able to fulfill the match because they wanted US$5 for food rather than $2,” said Chigirinya.
“That is the reason I was fired together with my captain Birthload,
“There are no winning bonuses, and you travel such a long distance to and from and get US$2.
“Chokwadi, the whole day, ndiyo yandirikupiwa ini coach pondo ndonzi nyarara, hazvibudi,”
The club said they fired him for inciting his players not to fulfil an away league match.
The club have been playing well of late, having won three games.
Club Chairman, Tafirei Makayi, told HMetro, that the executive were left with no choice but to relieve him of his duties.
In a letter dated May 22, 2023, Makayi wrote to Chigirinya advising him that he has been relieved of his duties as the club’s coach.
“We, as Kariba Waves Football Club Executive Committee, have decided to relieve you from your duties as the coach as from May 22 2023,” wrote Makayi.
“This is due to inciting the players to sabotage the club’s rules,”
Makayi said the club failed to travel for a match against Pondoro, which resulted in the club being penalised.
“The club wishes to thank you in every contribution which you bring to the club,” said Makayi.
