- Paul Pindani

ZIMPAPERS scribes in Mashonaland West dominated the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists( ZUJ) Provincial Journalism and Media Awards held at a Chinhoyi motel on Friday.

The 11th edition of the awards saw H-Metro’s correspondents, Paul Pindani and Lovemore Chazingwa scooping five awards.

Pindani, the tabloid’s scribe based in Chinhoyi, bagged the Crime and Court Reporter of the Year; Health Reporter of the Year, Arts Entertainment and Sports Reporter of the Year and Politics and Governance Reporter of the Year awards.

Kadoma correspondent, Lovemore Chazingwa, did not disappoint as he scooped the Information, Communication Reporter of the Year award, to cap a fine evening for the Zimpapers stable.

Zimpapers Mashonaland West bureau, Conrad Mupesa, took home the Agriculture Reporter of the Year and the Environment

Reporter of the Year out of 14 categories.

He was also the runner-up in the Arts, Entertainment and Sports and Overall Reporter of the Year categories.

Pindani said he was very grateful to H-Metro editors for giving him the platform to shine.

“I want to thank the Lord for making this possible, especially my colleagues at H- Metro, for inspiring me to aspire,” said Pindani.

Mupesa said the dominance of the Zimpapers stable was a sign that it remains a force to reckon with.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Marian Chombo, who was the guest of honour, challenged journalists in the province to write stories that promote development.

She discouraged brown envelope journalism.
