SWESWE PLEDGES LOYALTY TO SHEASHAM

- Curtworth Masango

SHEASHAM coach, Lizwe Sweswe, says he wants to stay at the club despite being relegated into Division One after just one season in the Premiership.

Sweswe joined the Gweru-based side halfway through the season in a bid to help the club escape the shadow of relegation.

But, it proved too late for the team and they were relegated on the final day of the season.

He will honour his pledge to the club leadership, which he made when he joined them.

“As a coach sometimes it’s about the principles you have as an individual. “I am here and to work with this team. “Moving on, at this moment, will only prove that I am a coward. I am a man of his word, I agreed with the club that I am going to stay.

“It’s not about what happened but about the vision of the club and the people of Gweru,” said Sweswe.

He said their plan is to take Sheasham straight back into the Premiership and they will do all they can to retain the key players from the just-ended season.

“The plan of the club is to make sure that we will return to the PSL and I am going to try to keep my best players as we need to do this.

“What is important now is to build for the PSL, with a competitive team, and we have to bring the right quality we believe will do us the job.”

Sweswe believes the introduction of junior and developmental sides in the team is important.

“Development is very important, there is too much rotation of players and the development will play a big role so we have started it here and it will bring us results and stability,” he said.

DYNAMOS ‘keeper Prince Tafiremutsa wants to extend his contract with the club as they put together a squad for the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Tafiremutsa penned a two-year deal with the Glamour Boys last year and it comes to an end on December 31.

He gave a good account of himself after he was given the chance to guard goals after Taimon Mvula fell out of favour with the coaches midway in the just-ended season.

Zimpapers Sport understands Mvula could be on his way out of Dynamos.

Tafiremutsa was instrumental in the club’s run to their Chibuku Super Cup glory, which became their first major trophy since 2014.

“Of course after finishing the season strongly, we will be looking forward to continue on that trajectory in the next season.

“With my contract running out, I am just waiting for the club to bring us to the negotiating table and see what they will bring out.

“I am confident that we will have an agreement,” said Tafiremutsa.

Dynamos vice chairman, Vincent Chawonza, believes the club could offer him three-year contracts to a number of players while reviewing salaries.

Chawonza is the club’s head of human capital management.

“We are happy with the team we have right now. They have shown that they can play and challenge all the big teams but African football, as you know, is not easy as the level is quite high.

“So, we are going to beef up the team in certain areas that the coach has recommended.

“We are going to keep the current squad as intact as we can and have just a few additions.

“We have already started negotiating with our players who have their contracts expiring at the end of the year.

“We want to increase their salaries and give them three-year contracts.

“Remember, Dynamos is the place to be at the moment for any player, we are in the African Safari, maybe play in the African Football League soon.

“We have a good squad, a good sponsorship and Dynamos is a place to be for every player who wants to market themselves. So we are very attractive to players and we will keep the ones we have.”
