MANGWENYA THE GOLFER, FARMER, HERBALIST

- Trust Khosa

DIANA “MANGWENYA” SAMKANGE takes a breather at the ZRP Golf Course in Harare on Friday.

Her trainer, Valentine Murapa, should be proud of her student who has mastered the elite sport in a short space of time.

The other golfers know her as a singer.

Glad in pink trainers, grey track bottom, and a matching T-shirt, she is doing fine.

“Golf helps me to refresh my mind and gives me time to physically exercise and to network with other golfers for business opportunities,” she says.

“I am working with my trainer Valentine Murapa who saw my potential.

“I don’t regret the decision I made to be a golfer because it has created many opportunities for me.

“I have always loved this sport because it’s for the rich and focused people.”

THE FARMER

“Besides music, I run a dairy at the farm (in Trelawney), and I sell Hodzeko milk. I also have a herbal store, I specialise in natural herbs.

“I am also a partner at a local restaurant somewhere in Harare West. My week revolves around all my projects.

“At the moment, the music industry is not very stable income-wise, so one needs to venture into other income-generating projects to earn a living and to also sponsor our musical projects.”

THE MOTHER

“I take my (two) children out at any given time, whenever I get free time off work, it’s usually with my kids

“My favourite holiday resort is always Manicaland. I believe it’s a unique place and the people there are pure and closer to God somehow.

“The people there are generally nice people and good hosts, the scenery makes me feel like I’m closer to God.”

THE HERBALIST

“I believe all spiritual powers come from God, He is the one who created us and the world... Mwari ndiye muridzi wemasimba ese, nezvipo zvese zvatiinazvo matiri.

“The Manjuzu cult is something I am concerned about. It has taken society by storm.

“Others have taken advantage of chivanhu to preach

about their cults which they claim are accustomed to Manjuzu.

“I drive a standard Toyota Mark 2 Grande with a Beams 2000 engine, a six-cylinder and I am a fanatic of speed

“When I am angry or distracted, I move away from people, I go to secluded places such as lakes, dams, waterfalls, and mountains to calm down and exhale and heal then I come back a bit calmer.

“I am not a violent person but I just love my peace all the time.”
