COUNTDOWN BEGINS FOR BINDURA CULTURAL CARNIVAL

ORGANISERS of the Bindura African Cultural Carnival street parade to be held in the mining town on December 17 say everything is in place.

Event coordinato­r, Pride Chando of Jab Tal Events, told H-Metro that various partners, including the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, were behind them.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Nicholas Moyo, said the forthcomin­g event was a noble initiative.

“The Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture supports the hosting of the African Cultural Carnival street parade in Bindura on the 17th of December 2023.

“Hosting of this carnival is in support of the

Presidenti­al Rural Developmen­t Programme of transformi­ng rural communitie­s through culture and creativity.

“Furthermor­e, the carnival promotes social cohesion, national identity, and pride which are key pillars for sustainabl­e developmen­t,” he said.

Moyo hailed the event for promoting local culture.

“The African Cultural Carnival street parade is a cultural event that celebrates African culture through cultural dance, food bazaar, African music, fashion, art exhibition and Miss Carnival African Beauty Pageant.

“This an important cultural event that allows people to celebrate, preserve, and strengthen the province’s culture while also contributi­ng more effectivel­y to the socio-economic developmen­t of the province.

“The event will enable the community in Mashonalan­d Central to showcase their creative ingenuity and increase consumptio­n of the cultural creative goods and services.

“Ministry furthermor­e applauds this noble initiative and further requests that the African Cultural Carnival Street Parade, devolves to all provinces.”

However, the Ministry will not offer financial support.

Chando said:

“It might be too late before the event but those willing to come on board can do so.

“The carnival street parade will start along Robert Mugabe Road in Bindura, heading into Central Avenue.

“We expect more than 1000 people to take part in the event,” he said.

After the street parade, Chando revealed they will hold Miss Carnival Bindura.
