Spare a thought for poor, homeless

-

THE festive season is upon us.

It is that time of the year when merry-making and bingeing will be a common thing.

Companies and organisations hold end-of-year parties as they take stock of their achievements.

Some organisations reward employees with hampers and gifts.

Others reward their workforce with a 13th cheque.

All this is meant to motivate people to work hard.

Those who have the means go on holiday with their peers and families.

Holidaying, during his period, affords people a chance to refresh and plan for the new year.

However, we tend to forget the poor and less privileged people who need our support.

We need to spare a thought for the poor during this time of the year.

Of course, we need to remember them every day but this period is crucial.

We need to share the little we have with the poor and bring a smile to their faces.

A dollar can change someone’s life even though it might not mean much in the life of another individual.

As we party, we need to remember that some people are failing to make ends meet.

We also need to spread the gospel of love, sharing and giving, during this period. This is the ideal time for companies and individuals to visit and donate to the orphanages.

Many companies do this as part of their corporate social responsibility programmes.

We salute them for their noble gesture of helping the needy and making them feel loved by their peers.

The festive season is also a time when we need to remember the homeless by feeding and clothing them.

Homeless people living on the streets should not be allowed to feel out of place if we can easily assist them.

Real influencers, who many look up to as role models, should also play a leading role in assisting the poor. Big shots, known as mbinga in street lingo, should, at least, do something for the poor people in our communities during this period.

Of course, we can’t teach them how to spend their money but they should also show us the other side of them by giving to the poor.

Some well-known people are flashing wads of money on expensive wheels and other luxuries and they need to extend that expenditure to helping the poor.

The culture of giving should start at the household level where children need to be taught to be generous to others.

This will make the world a better place to be if we show each other love.

As we party and merry-make during the festive season, we should not forget those who can’t do the same because of the circumstances they find themselves in. The less privileged people are also part of us and we don’t need to forget them.

Empowering the poor to start projects is the best solution that we need to do to change their lives forever.
