Shopkeeper wins US$10K in ZimGold competition

- Maria Chiguvari

AFTER working as a shopkeeper for the past two years, Benaiah Matia is US$10 000 richer.

He struck the jackpot in the ZimGold millionaire promotion.

The 26-year-old said he entered the competition after he was motivated by his workmates.

Two of his workmates won US$50 prizes. Matia said that they sell 150-200 boxes of cooking oil per day.

“When I found out I had won, I was actually shell-shocked. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I always used to see other winners of this prize and think ‘wow that would be amazing to win.’

“Now that I have won the money, I don’t think that I will still work at my previous job.

“I am just going to focus on my own business. I have always dreamt of doing my own thing. At this moment, I am still in shock because it was my first time participating in such a competition.

“I am grateful to ZimGold for such an opportunity.”

The competition also saw Martha Tembo walking away with US$1000 and Mavis Muringani and Linnet Chinhema both walking away with ZimGold hampers.

ZimGold commercial director, Aman Jyoti, said the competition was a success as it attracted 500 000 entries.

“Through this initiative, we just want to cheer our customers who have supported us through thick and thin by giving them back what they have invested in us.

“We have had over 500 000 unique entries, so that means 500 000 people went and bought the boxes, opened the boxes, took out the card, went on

WhatsApp and entered, which is a lot, you know, to have that kind of engagement from the end consumer.

“We really value that.

“That shows how, you know, closely they are connected with the brand.

“This year was also the year when we introduced new products. We added margarine and we added soya chunks.

“So, when we do the ZimGold millionaire promotion, it’s not just about the cooking.”
