Tapfuma wins HSL soccer star award

- Bruce Chikuni

THE Harare Super League showed why they are the most organised social football league in the country by honouring the league winners, Agents FC, and the outstanding performers in their just-ended campaign.

The awards ceremony took place at Belgravia Sports Club.

League chairman, Kelvin Kanyama, revealed that they have inked a deal with Tachay Construction, which will see them sponsoring a Super8 Cup next season.

The winners of this competition will receive US$1 000.

More deals are said to be in the pipeline.

Ageless Godfrey Tapfuma of Royal FC won the league’s Soccer Star of The Year prize.

Stadic’s Delight Jim won the Golden Boot after scoring 35 times.

Kudzanayi Mureza of Agents FC conceded the least goals and took home the Golden Glove.

It was also an emotional moment for Tapfuma, who dedicated his

award to his late father, Patrick.

Patrick passed away two weeks ago and was also the founder of Royal FC.

“This award is for my late father. “I really owe it to him for everything he went through in trying to give me a better life.

“It really means a lot to me and I also want to thank my teammates who made this possible,” said Tapfuma.

He also encouraged the youngsters who play in this league to use HSL as their stepping stone.

“This is one of the most competitive leagues in the country and we have youngsters with great potential and I hope they remain humble until they reach their goals.

“The good thing about this league is that we have many local football legends who can always provide guidance to these youngsters.

“I also want to thank those who are running this league.

“It’s not easy but, as players, we are really motivated by the standards they are setting,” he said.
