ROBBERY SUSPECT FACES MURDER CHARGE
A HARARE man, who had been on the run for robbery, has been arrested and also faces a murder charge.
It was discovered during robbery investigations that Samson Chikanza (24), who is jointly charged with his accomplice, Onias Chirombo, committed murder at Zimbiru Business Centre in Domboshava.
Samson appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi while Onias is already in remand prison.
Samson was arrested at Zimbiru Business Centre in Domboshava last Saturday after being implicated in a murder case.
During interrogation, detectives found that he was also involved in a robbery in Glen Forest
According to the State, Samson was drinking beer at Gairezi Shebeen in the company of the complainant and Chirombo.
The complainant was buying the beer they were drinking until the shebeen closed at around 11.30pm.
Samson assumed that the complainant had a lot of money and connived with Chirombo to rob him on their way back to a mine where they all worked.
Samson is reported to have grabbed the complainant by the neck from behind and Chirombo struck him with a stone on the head.
He went on to stab the complainant on the face, in the abdomen, on the back and buttocks several times with an Okapi knife.
The complainant collapsed due to excessive bleeding, and Samson and Chirombo searched his pockets and took a wallet containing US$15, an iTel cellphone, shoes and satchel.
To cover up the crime, Samson cut his clothes with the Okapi to make it appear as if they were attacked together.
He went to the mine in tattered clothes and lied to his workmates that he was attacked by criminals while in the company of the complainant.
The complainant managed to crawl to his cabin and was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was admitted for four days.
He made a report to the police in Chinamhora through his relatives.
