IN MHONDORO, TERRY IS LIVING HIS DREAM
HIS dream to start a restaurant serving African dishes began in 2016.
A Political Science graduate, from the University of Zimbabwe, Terence Maphosa (30) ventured into goat farming, horticulture and poultry to sustain himself in Mhondoro after his studies.
He had worked for one year at a furniture shop where he earned peanuts.
Now, he is running a successful restaurant, serving African cuisines in Village 6, Mhondoro-Ngezi.
Foreign nationals, Premier League clubs and socialites are now dining at his restaurant.
“I have always loved farming and we started by rearing goats, road runner chickens and horticulture. I used to post everything on my social media handles and my story is there for everyone to read.
“I raised money to start my restaurant from the chicken and goats I sold.
“I now employ 15 full-time workers and others come in when we are busy. On a good day, we serve more than 300 people and it’s a good number for us.”
He added:
“I have travelled to the United Nations headquarters to tell my story as well as Kenya and Rwanda.
“Highlanders Football Club was the first club to come and dine here and I was humbled by their support as they regularly come here for their meals.
“Nearly all the PSL clubs have come here and this is great news to be supported by my own.
“I was also humbled when Ngezi Football Club brought the PSL trophy here and I managed to lay my hands on it.”
Terry, who was raised in Mhondoro, says he only visits Harare when he has special meetings and appointments.
“Like I said earlier on, I stay and work here in Mhondoro. I don’t see the need for me to go and stay in Harare because I am having a better life here.
“I am challenging other rural entrepreneurs to make an impact where they stay.
“My advice to rural entrepreneurs, like myself, is that I want them to work hard and remain focused on their work.
“Harare is not everything when it comes to entrepreneurship.”
