Dreams come true for saxophonist (9)

- Latwell Nyangu

NINE-YEAR-OLD saxophonist Aiden Chinyerere, who is also the reigning Mr Little Zimbabwe, has been described as a “beacon of youthful ambition” with great potential in music.

Aiden will perform at the upcoming Mr Little and Miss Africa event in Nigeria in March, and his mother, an event organiser, inspired his interest in playing an instrument. “My mother is very musical so that was influential. When we got a piano in our house, that’s when I got interested in playing an instrument.

“My saxophone teacher Joseph Dave is making a really big difference in my progress. He is my number one cheerleader, as he sees big things in me and I am really grateful for that,” said Aiden.

“My mom being an events person meant I watched people playing the sax at different events. Watching them perform, I was like, wow I wish to be like them. “Dave-the-sax is one of the great masters and is a beautiful musician that’s influenced me.”

Dave believes Aiden could be Zimbabwe’s youngest saxophonist and says he has “great potential” if he continues with lessons over the next few years.

“Aiden was inspired by how I play the sax, how I perform at various events and how I have managed to make a living out of my talent.

“My experience with Aiden has been stunning and mind blowing. In the few weeks that he has started his journey, Aiden has shown me that he has great potential to be a fine saxophone player.

“If we continue on with these lessons step by step in the next two to five years, he will be untouchable. He has a bright future,” said Dave.
