Dynamos target foreign strikers

- Curtworth Masango

DYNAMOS are seeking to strengthen the squad ahead of the African Safari challenge by signing Namibian striker Sadney Urikhob (31) and Malawian striker Hassan Kajoke (26).

The move follows a lacklustre season for Dynamos, whose strikers struggled to score last season, with teenager Elton Chikona leading the club’s charts with just five goals.

It is expected that a number of the club’s current strikers will be released.

Dynamos’ vice chairman Vincent Chawonza confirmed the club’s interest in foreign players, saying the strikers’ experience will be key to the team’s chances in the forthcoming competition.

The club is set to announce Genesis Mangombe as its substantive head coach.

Mangombe, who is the current interim coach, is believed to be the right person to lead the Glamour Boys after landing the prestigious Chibuku Super Cup, a feat the club had failed to achieve since 2014.

“We believe that these two can give us the edge ahead of the African Safari challenge. We are still waiting for the draw to see who we will be playing against.

“Sadney was once with Young Africans in Tanzania and we believe his experience is crucial for our squad. Kajoke was with Nyasa Big Bullets.

“But as a club, we have to be ready to face any opponent for the good. So our preparations have to be on point and bring the right personnel. Last week we had trials and the club will settle on some players this coming week.

“Of course, some of our targets committed themselves somewhere, but we are Dynamos, we are not bothered, we will focus on what we have.

“Also some players are leaving the club despite our efforts to keep them within our ranks, which we believe will create opportunities for others to shine,” said Chawonza.

“Mangombe is going to pen a three-year contract with the club. The club was waiting to have some logistical issues covered first before proceeding to announce him officially.

“The club highly ranks him and he is here to stay. We have been in discussions with our sponsor as this time around we are going to be involved in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“The process might have taken a bit longer than expected, but all is under control,” he said.
