TIGERS SET TO RESCHEDULE ZIM TEST SERIES

DHAKA. — The Bangladesh Cricket Board are planning to reschedule the two-match Test series at home against Zimbabwe in order to get some time to prepare for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in USA and West Indies from June 1.

A top BCB official confirmed the development to Cricbuzz adding that a final decision in this regard will be taken in the coming days.

“It is not a fact that we are going to abandon the two Tests against Zimbabwe and certainly we will play the two Tests (against Zimbabwe) but when we will play that Test is something we need to decide,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told Cricbuzz yesterday.

Bangladesh are scheduled to start their preparation for the global T20 tournament with the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League from January 19. After the BPL, Bangladesh are scheduled to play a home series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka are scheduled to play two Tests alongside three ODIs and three T20Is following which Bangladesh are slated to play two Tests along with five T20Is against Zimbabwe at home in May.

BCB are mulling with the idea of rescheduling the Tests as that will give them some extra time to prepare for the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is expected to arrive on January 20 and following his arrival BCB will chalk plans for the mega event.

It is understood if the Test series against Zimbabwe is rescheduled, the board can send their team earlier to USA to adapt with the conditions.

This is the second time Bangladesh are playing cricket in USA after their two games against West Indies in 2018 in Florida.
