Arrest thugs who murdered money-changer

THE grisly murder of a Norton money-changer, whose remains were found in a maize field on Friday, has shocked many Zimbabweans.

Better known as Chada, Munya Chidangachidye’s death is being felt by his shell-shocked community as well as his friends.

The daring murderer’s guts to drive away with his Honda Fit, before leaving the money he had behind, shows that the plot was premeditated. The murder or murderers left the charred shell of the car in Dema, presumably to conceal evidence.

Following the spine-chilling act, the community of Norton is now reflecting on yet another loss of life in chilling circumstances.

With the bereaved family still desperate for answers, we call upon the authorities to step up investigations and bring the culprits to book.

We can’t afford to be a nation harbouring criminals.

Readers have also expressed their concern and urged the police to intensify patrols countrywide.

According to the feedback filtering in, it was evident that Chida was a man of the people.

Glowing tributes about him showed that he was always getting on well along with his fellow residents.

All this was expressed by the community of Norton, which is now demanding justice.

The same community has called for various stakeholders to combine forces and fight crime.

These stakeholders include the local Crime Consultative Community, police and residents who might have leads to track down the murders.

What also pained residents was that the murderers only targeted Chida’s life and his car.

Some are now wondering why they didn’t just take away the car and leave him alive while others have condemned the whole act in its strongest terms.

By killing him, it shows that they might have been closer to people who knew him and they were afraid to be caught. A breadwinner, Chida who was set to be buried in Bikita.

He left a void which will be hard to fill. His death is also a reminder to other money changers, or other hustlers dealing with large sums, to be always on high alert.

It shows that danger is always lurking on the horizon when it comes to dealings where large volumes of money are involved.

They say money is the source of all evil and they are right.

People are now evil to the extent of sacrificing other people’s souls for a song. On a bigger scale, this also serves as a reminder to people in the informal sector to prioritise their security.

A lot of money is circulating in the informal sector where such criminals can easily find their targets.

There is a need for informal traders to put their safety first and safeguard themselves.

We really don’t know the full details as to why Chida was targeted and we can only speculate, as of now.

But, what is undeniable is that, one way or the other, it was connected to his hustling.

What gives us comfort is that our police will get to the bottom of this and the culprits will be apprehended.
