BUSINESSMAN Brighton Ushendibaba celebrated his birthday by donating food hampers worth thousands of dollars to the Harare Children’s Home, instead of holding an extravagant party.

The Pan Jap Motors boss decided to depart from the norm of marking his birthday with pomp, glitz, glamour and a star-studded guest list popping expensive champagne and drinking expensive whiskey to give a big cheer to the needy kids.

“I used to hold parties with my peers as a way of celebrating my birthday over the years, but I have always loved sharing with needy members of society and Harare Children’s Home came to mind. I have come here with these donations that I hope will make a difference,” he said.

Ushendibaba, who was accompanied by Chief Chitsa from Gutu, has pledged to continue helping the needy.

“In life, we can change other people’s lives with the little that we share with them. We should always remember the poor all the time as we celebrate our milestones like birthdays.

“We should be known for sharing with others and not known for being extravagant.”

Chief Chitsa praised Ushendibaba for his generosity towards the less privileged and urged him to continue his good work.

“Brighton has not started helping the poor today, but he has a track record of helping others, including supporting people with school fees in the rural areas and employing several people at his garage, as well as running a football club. It’s not an easy task.

“He has been changing many people’s lives and we hope he continues assisting the poor,” said Chief Chitsa.

Socialite Wanisayi “Mahwindo” Mutandwa urged Ushendibaba to register a foundation, highlighting his charitable work over a long period.

“I am happy that my brother has been doing a good job as far as charity work is concerned. It’s hard to find people like him who can share with others during these trying times.

“I urge him to register a foundation because he has been doing this for quite a long period. He has done something that we should cherish all the time because he has been changing many lives,” she said.
