LET’S HONOUR HEROIC BROTHERS

-

HEROISM is a remarkable display of bravery, which deserves to be honoured.

The exceptional show of courage can save lives and create lasting memories.

Great acts of bravery are hard to erase in people’s minds if they involve saving lives of other human beings.

This could be the case with the two brothers, aged 12 and nine, who saved the woman from a crocodile attack in Mhondoro-Ngezi last Sunday.

The young boys are trending both the mainstream and social media after they rescued the woman who had a close shave with death.

She was attacked by the crocodile while fishing in a river using nets.

The woman will forever be grateful to the little boys who were there to save her life when she needed their helping hand, and courage, the most.

Villagers are still at a loss for words as the two boys reacted swiftly, and bravely, to thwart the dangerous reptile by piercing its eyes.

This rare case makes them the heroes of the week.

The boys deserve to be honoured for their bravery.

It’s not every day that we read such refreshing stories of boys, or even men, who can show such kind of bravery. Many boys, and many men, would have fled from the scene once it became clear that such a vicious attack was underway.

For the record, there were many others, who were there on the river banks, who fled from the scene.

But, the boys did not let fear lead them.

Instead, they found courage, where many were being pummeled by fear, and dived into the river.

They knew the consequences of their actions and the real possibility that they could also have become victims of this attack.

Crocodiles are very dangerous animals and when they are in the water, they are the kings because this is a domain where they rule.

The first honour the boys deserve is respect from fellow villagers and the people who groomed them.

If it were in other countries, they could have been rewarded handsomely, including getting cash gifts, for their efforts.

This is where we feel that benefactors like Wicknell Chivayo should come in and reward these boys.

It doesn’t have to be the money all the time, even sponsoring their education is very important.

The Zimbabwe Parks and National Wildlife Management can also do something for the two boys for their gallantry.

The boys’ brave show should not pass as a non-event.

In rural areas, crocodile-infested rivers are everywhere, and it’s up to the people to be vigilant.

The Mhondoro-Ngezi woman is very lucky that she was saved by the two little angels.

We should avoid risky behaviour and stay away from trouble.

People should devise safe fishing methods for their safety.

Little heroes like these are hard to come by when misfortune visits.

In a nutshell, let’s salute our little heroes who have made a change.
