BRUISED BROOS MOCKED BY ZIM FANS

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says Zim must be banned from WCO

- Sports Reporter

AFTER Bafana Bafana’s opening day loss to Mali at the AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabweans have been hitting back at their coach Hugo Broos.

Two months ago, the Belgian gaffer torched a firestorm here when he suggested that the Warriors should not be considered for the World Cup/ AFCON qualifiers because, at the moment, they can’t host their games at home.

This is due to unavailability of suitable football venues, as stipulated by CAF, in their countries, to host matches of such a magnitude.

The Warriors were not the only team who played their 2026 World Cup qualifying home matches away from home.

Sixteen other African sides that were forced to play on neutral venues.

And, after Bafana Bafana slipped to a 0-2 defeat to Mali on Tuesday night, a number of Zimbabweans have been hitting back at Broos and mocking him online.

“Hugo Broos was concentrating on having Zimbabwe disqualified from the World Cup qualifiers rather than preparing Bafana Bafana for the AFCON finals,” said one Zimbabwean online.

“He is seeing our shadow everywhere and when he saw those Mali shirts he must have thought he was playing us because he appears very obsessed with us and he just wilted,” said another.

Yet another fan added:

“The funny thing about this is that Hugo and his SA would not have qualified had we played in the qualifiers and they were lucky we were barred because of that suspension.”

Bafana Bafana have won just two matches at the AFCON finals in the past nine years, lost six and drawn one.

The Warriors and Bafana Bafana are in the same 2026 World Cup qualifying group.
