DEATH OF JAH’S DAD UNITED US — CHIPAZ

ZIMBABWE Music Promoters Association chairperson, Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, feels the funeral wake and burial of Jah Prayzah’s father united creatives, promoters and fans.

Sekuru John Chamunorwa Mukombe, died on Sunday and was buried in Uzumba on Tuesday.

Various stakeholders united to comfort Jah Prayzah and his family.

“The huge attendance by prominent people in Uzumba shows unity of purpose in the industry. “We are grateful to the artists who managed to come and perform at the event for free throughout the night.

“As promoters, this is the kind of love that we have been yearning for in this industry,” he said.

Chipaz urged Jah Prayzah to follow his father’s teachings. “We all live to die and what we don’t know is the time we are leaving this world. “We are as good as people on the bus with different destinations.

“JP and his family should maintain the good things they learned from Sekuru Mukombe.” Fellow music promoters — Tinashe “Nash” Mutarisi, Tich Mharadze, and Benjamin Nyandoro — graced the event and preached the same gospel of unity in showbiz.

Mutarisi, who has been working with Jah Prayzah on several projects, challenged Zimbabweans to emulate the good deeds of their parents. Sekuru Mukombe was also described as a principled man who changed many lives as a teacher and headmaster. “Nesuwo, Mwari vatibetsere tisvike pakuradzikwa vana vedu vachiri kunzwa manyukunyuku pose panodaidzwa zita redu, amen,” wrote Mutarisi on his social media page.

Sekuru Mukombe’s big send-off turned out to be a celebration of a life well lived.

Suluman Chimbetu, Albert Nyathi, Derreck Mpofu, and Australia-based jiti musician Mabasa Bazuka were among the mourners who graced the event.

Jah Prayzah’s loyal fans, known as Team JP, drove to Uzumba to comfort the superstar.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary, Nick Mangwana, also attended the burial.

Villagers came in numbers to give Sekuru Mukombe a befitting send-off.
