There should be no room for bogus cops

-

THE arrest and prosecution of a six-member bogus detective syndicate masquerading as officers from the CID drugs and narcotics section is very welcome.

Such gangs are known for terrorising people and demanding bribes.

In this case, the gang allegedly demanded cash from people they accused of selling drugs.

They would produce fake identity cards and masquerade as police officers while others impersonated members of the Office of the President.

According to the State papers, they would instill fear in their targets before getting away with money.

Using the same modus operandi, they finally ran out of luck early this month when the real CID officials got a tip-off that the gang had kidnapped someone.

The victim went through a traumatic experience after being held hostage for hours as the ruthless gang members demanded cash.

Pepper sprays, handcuffs and tracking devices were found by the authentic CID officials upon the arrest of these thugs.

The arrest of these ruthless thugs has been commended by our readers who are now demanding justice.

Some readers urged other victims to come forward and report their cases so that the real extent of the six-member gang’s terror can be highlighted.

Others have urged the police to weed out more bogus syndicates who are currently on the prowl.

We can’t afford to let bogus cops be on the loose reaping where they did not sow.

Victims of bogus cops should come forward to ensure that we can nail these bastards.

It’s very unfair for people to lose their money to lazy people who are fleecing hard-working individuals by instilling fear in them.

The public should report all people they suspect to be bogus cops.

In cases where such people produce fake identity cards, they can always call the nearest police stations for verification.

However, the main problem is that it’s now hard to distinguish between bogus and authentic cops.

Some of the bogus cops are believed to have strong links with authentic police officers.

In other cases, some of these syndicates have people who left the force and know how they operate.

This has made it difficult to distinguish between bogus cops and the real officers.

However, people should be firm and vigilant when they are approached by dubious people masquerading as detectives.

Real detectives don’t harass people but they do engage them before arrest.

Police chiefs should also address this issue as more bogus syndicates are terrorising people.

It’s an issue the police chiefs should bring to finality to ensure that we don’t lose cash on these bogus syndicates.

The public needs to be educated on how to deal with bogus cops as most of them have been on the loose for years.

It’s quite unfair for people to be harassed by these syndicates who are capitalising on people’s fear of the unknown.

We all have a role to play to ensure that we root out these bogus syndicates.
