NGEZI BOSS QUITS
CHAMPIONS Ngezi Platinum Stars are currently without a chairperson following the resignation of Leonard Musariri who guided them to their first league championship last year.
Musariri was appointed in June, 2020, as the executive chairperson.
He took over from Silence Gavi in a boardroom reshuffle which was meant to give the ambitious side a competitive edge.
It is understood Musariri tendered his resignation effective December 9 and, when they officially celebrated the league title, he had already resigned although he was still waiting for the club to issue a public statement.
However, to date, Ngezi Platinum executives are yet to make Musariri’s departure public.
“His resignation was submitted during the first week of December, when the club still had outstanding commitments so they did not want to rush to release a statement to avoid disrupting the momentum in camp,” said a source. Ngezi Platinum Stars spokesperson, Rorberta Katunga, could not immediately comment on the matter.
“I cannot give you a proper response right now, kindly put your questions in writing and we will respond.”
Musariri asked the publication to call later saying he was busy.
However, his phone later went unanswered.
Musariri appeared to have a good relationship with coach Takesure Chiragwi as seen by the support he gave him when Ngezi Platinum went on a dry spell late in the season.
This allowed Dynamos and Manica Diamonds to claw back into the title race but, to his credit, Musariri never panicked and his statements gave Chiragwi the comfort he needed at a sensitive period in the championship race.
There have been reports that Musariri wanted to concentrate more on his private business ventures and, after winning the league, he felt that he had completed the mission at the club.
