APOSTOLIC SECT MEMBERS RECEIVE CHOLERA VACCINE
MEMBERS of the Apostolic sect received the cholera vaccination alongside other Kuwadzana residents at yesterday’s launch of the vaccination programme in the suburb.
Madzibaba Tendai Moyo, of Rugare Apostolic Church, welcomed the involvement of white garment churches in the vaccination programme.
He called on fellow Apostolic sect members to take the vaccine.
“Some apostolic sects were not taking these initiatives seriously, but now that we have been taught about it, many of us are starting to visit clinics to preserve our health and that of our children,” said Madzibaba Tendai.
An Apostolic sect member, Miriam Jonasi said diseases do not know any religious backgrounds and this had prompted her to take the vaccine.
“Kurwara hakuna chitendero and when cholera attacks, it won’t spare you. So, it’s better to take the vaccine so that, at least, when cholera attacks me, the impact won’t be severe.
“I urge fellow members of the Apostolic sect to take the vaccine to preserve life,” she said.
Beven Samuriwo (16) said he took the vaccine to encourage other young people who may have fears about being vaccinated.
“Many of my age-mates shun vaccines as there are various stories being spread around about them in our communities,” said Beven.
A community health worker said she took the vaccine to lead by example as a front line health worker.
“I work with people from different backgrounds and I believe that if they see me taking it, they will follow suit.
“I am also at a high risk of exposure in my line of work.”
