BASHED STUDENT, WHO LOST A TOOTH IN ATTACK, TURNS 22

- H-Metro Reporter

THE student, who lost a tooth in a vicious gang attack outside a Harare night club on Saturday morning, marked his birthday yesterday with his colleagues saying he was lucky to be alive.

He turned 22.

The student has chosen not to be identified for now and declined offers to be interviewed.

However, his friends have been pressing on “for justice” saying the perpetrators should face the music.

The student, who is currently on attachment with a city firm, was rushed to hospital just after the incident which left him with a missing tooth.

The owner of Club Zone, probably the best nightclub in Harare’s high density areas, who has only been identified as JB, is said to have led the assault.

Initial reports on Saturday indicated that he was arrested, after a report was filed at Braeside Police Station, but it later turned out that police have been keen to interview him.

More details of the altercation, which happened after the parties had attended a birthday bash at a night club in the Hillside area of the capital, have since emerged.

The gang, said sources, was in a Range Rover and they blocked the car, which the student was about to drive, in the parking lot.

“It was like a movie, the Range Rover just came from the other side and blocked this car, which had three passengers, including the young man who was on the driver’s seat,” said the sources.

“Then, some guys jumped from the Range Rover and started attacking the young man through the window.

“He was helpless and he got quite a beating. “Then, some guys from the gang turned on another guy, who had just come out of the night club, and began hitting and kicking him, even after he had fallen to the ground.

“The guys who attacked were travelling in two cars and one did not have licence plates.”
