Positive response to cholera welcome

-

THE positive response of traditional and religious leaders in Marange to the national initiative to contain cholera is a step in the right direction.

This should come as good news for Health Minister, Douglas Mombeshora, who has been doing a fine job to lead from the front in dealing with this outbreak.

We can’t afford to lose more lives to cholera given this is a disease which can be contained if people are willing to cooperate.

The Marange community, which is known for being a haven for Apostolic sects, should be applauded for enforcing hygienic measures in their areas.

Following the successful launch of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programme by the Government, and other stakeholders, it is our wish that the other community leaders learn from the Marange traditional leaders.

Traditional and religious leaders are powerful people who have a lot of influence in Zimbabwe.

Their influence should never be underestimated and bringing them into such national initiatives is always key if we are to get some positive outcomes.

We also expect the same approach, which various stakeholders took at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, to be executed in our fight against cholera.

It’s refreshing that community and religious leaders in remote areas are taking the lead in fighting cholera.

With the large population residing in rural areas, it shows that Minister Mombeshora has pitched the battle against cholera in all the relevant areas of the country.

As Zimbabweans we should just play our role, for the sake of our health and the good of the nation, to ensure that these initiatives bear fruit.

It’s good that all the problem areas are being targeted, including the hotspots in the urban settlements.

As it stands, we are on the right track to fight and beat cholera.

The corporate sector should also play a big role in this fight because only after we are all united in this quest can we beat cholera.

Everyone should adopt all these hygienic measures to ensure that we win this battle.

Children should also be empowered with the right information to tackle the spread of cholera.

We can only save lives if stakeholders pull in the same direction.

To our influencers, this is also the appropriate time to spread awareness about cholera and how we can fight this as a nation.

We want influencers who can assist us in addressing relevant issues like the spread of cholera.

Being our role models, top celebrities and influencers can change people’s lives by preaching the gospel to contain the outbreak of cholera.

We can only win this battle if we work together.

We showed as a nation, during the Covid-19 outbreak, that we can fight such threats and win the battle.

This is the same defiant attitude we need, as a country, in this battle against cholera.

It’s another huge test for us but, as Zimbabweans, we have shown now and again that we can defeat such massive threats.
