JUVENILE RAPE CASES RECORDED AT SCHOOLS

- Arron Nyamayaro

TWO juvenile rape cases were reported at various schools last week.

In one of the cases reported, a schoolboy, only identified as Manyengavana, 15, was arrested and released into the custody of her mother.

He is alleged to have raped a Grade Five pupil, aged 11, in Budiriro.

Another Form One student, aged 13, was raped by her friend, only identified as Blessing, in Warren Park D.

Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, said Blessing is still at large and is appealing for information that may lead to his arrest.

“Police have noted with concern rape cases involving minor children,” said Ass-Insp Mapisa.

“In one of the cases, the accused person called the minor into his room whilst her other two friends were playing outside.

“The accused person raped her once without protection and continued to rape her on different occasions.

“The matter came to light after the minor child’s friends informed their teacher who then summoned the minor and advised the parents before escorting them to ZRP Budiriro where a report was made. The accused person was released into the custody of his mother and the minor was escorted to Mbare MSF Clinic for medical examinations.”

She added: “In another case, the accused person visited the student at her place of residence telling her that there was someone who wanted to see her at an incomplete house in Warren Park D New Stands.

“The student went to the house whilst accused was following behind her.

“Upon arrival at the uncompleted house, the student realised that there was no one and when she was about to go back home, the accused person grabbed her hand, pulled her into the house and raped her without protection.

“The matter came to light on the same day, at around 2200hours, when the student’s mother returned home and found her still awake.

“She asked the complainant what was the problem and she told her about the case.

“The student was escorted to Family Support Clinic for medical examination and treatment.”
