IT never rains but it pours for striker, Jerry Chipangura, who has been forced to terminate his deal at Greenfuel, without kicking a ball, just a month after signing a one-year deal.
Chipangura was jailed two years ago for his involvement in drug dealings.
The 25-year-old was released and joined Yadah Stars with the Miracle Boys saying they wanted to help him in his rehabilitation.
He finished as the team’s top goalscorer with seven goals despite joining them in mid-season.
Part of the conditions of his release were that he should report to Mabvuku Police Station, every Friday in person, until the completion of his full jail term.
This is something which might not have crossed his mind when he agreed to a oneyear deal with the Chisumbanje side.
This would have required Chipangura to travel 1044 km before every home fixture.
Things could have been worse during their away assignments.
It was a risk he was not prepared to take. Green Fuel chairman, Fred Moyo, confirmed to Zimpapers Sports that Chipangura was no longer in their books.
Moyo stated that Chipangura’s decision was personal and beyond their control.
“It’s unfortunate that Chipangura is no longer with the team, and we never had any problems. He left like a gentleman after submitting his resignation letter.
“He mentioned that his reasons were personal, and we respected his decision because there is no point in forcing someone to continue when they do not feel comfortable with their situation.
“Chipangura has since returned to Harare and we are uncertain about his next destination, but we only want what is best for him,” said Moyo.
Yadah Stars owner, Prophet Walter Magaya, demonstrated his vision to use his club as a means to transform the lives of footballers when he gave Chipangura a second chance.
He embraced Chipangura at a time other PSL clubs were hesitant to go into bed with him.
Chipangura is likely to continue his rehabilitation process at Yadah while resolving his problems.
After the mid-season break, he was arguably the league’s best player, jointly scoring the most number of goals with Black Rhinos’ Lot Chiwunga.
Chipangura also found the net in Yadah’s crucial final match of the season, where they humbled Dynamos 2-1 at the National Sports Stadium, to secure their place in the Castle Lager Premiership for the
2024 season.
