NGARAVA’S STAR RISING, JOINS DUBAI CAPITALS

- Sports Reporter

ZIMBABWE’S top T20I bowler Richard Ngarava has joined the Dubai Capitals for the remainder of the 2024 DP World International League T20 season.

The left-arm fast medium bowler joins Chevrons T20I captain, Sikandar Raza, at the Dubai Capitals, who are captained by Australian legend, David Warner.

Dubai Capitals announced Ngarava’s deal yesterday afternoon.

“Join us in welcoming Richard Ngarava, as the southpaw pacer replaces Nuwan Thushara for the remaining DPWorldLT20 season,” they posted on their social platforms. He was however, not part of the team yesterday as they took on Gulf Giants for their eighth fixture of the tournament.

Ngarava’s participation in the DP World International League T20 tournament will go some way to make up for his exclusion from the more prestigious Indian Premier League.

The bowler is probably the most improved Zimbabwean cricketer and has transformed himself as the leading member of the national team’s bowling attack.

He was named in the ICC T20I Team of the Year.

Finishing with 26 wickets in 15 matches, Ngarava only conceded 5.63 runs per over, taking a wicket every 12.1 deliveries.

Ngarava began the year with figures of 2/20 (3) against Ireland on home Harare soil, before taking 1/32 two days later against the same opponent.

He finished the year with five wickets in three home matches when Ireland visited again last month.

In naming the Best XI, the ICC recognised 11 outstanding individuals who impressed throughout 2023, be it with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits across the calendar year.

Raza also made the Team of the Year.
