Liam Leezy aims for the stars
THESE days, it’s never too early to start a career in music.
Holy Ten went into it due to his husky voice, but he is due to face more competition from an emerging chanter, Tumelo Nyashanu (19) who goes by the stage name Liam Leezy.
Tumelo is a rising star in the local music scene with a heavy and husky voice that sets him apart.
He started making music at the age of 15 to express his feelings and experiences, and his goal is to take over the rap and Afro sounds scene with his unique African sound.
His performance is highly energetic and he aims to craft his art for the people, addressing issues like drug abuse and conflict.
“Thank God for my rare heavy musical voice and lyrics which gush out of me day and night.
“I started making music when I was 15 and released my first single called On the low in 2020.
“I started making music because I wanted a method of expressing myself and the things I had been through in life.
“I feel I have a unique African sound which is obviously going to take this continent very far, but only with the right start, right people and right dedication to my craft.
“The day I will never forget is when I performed in front of my school and surprisingly the whole crowd sang along to my entire songs. Imagine I was forced to perform a song called Cold Outside again and again.
“Cold outside is like saying, it’s dangerous out there, be careful. Stay away from drugs and things that may harm you and your future because life is a beautiful thing and there is so much more to experience.
“Cold Outside was also for my haters and people who conspire against me. I managed to discover these colds out there in my teenage years because conflict comes at any age. We all have disagreements with people and end up having to watch our backs,” he said.
Tumelo said he is happy with the reception his music has received so far, but he’s not yet where he wants to be.
“I still want more people to hear my story and what I have to offer to the music scene.
“I remind artists to keep on learning because they are jets of information and are supposed to be ahead of everyone in wisdom.
“When you read, you will be jetting across the world while seated in your living room.”
