GODKNOWS Murwira has revealed that he turned down more lucrative offers in favour of CAPS United when he joined the Green Machine last year.
The 30-year-old defender had an option to stay put at Dynamos, after spending a year on loan from FC Platinum, but elected to sign for his boyhood club.
“CAPS United, in a way, is my home. I was nurtured at this club and I have a lot of respect for everyone associated with this club right from the team president Farai Jere,” said Murwira.
“As a footballer, life can take you anywhere and you ought to give your best, playing to the best of your ability and show the world what you can offer.
“As such I am very grateful to all the clubs in the league, especially Dynamos, Ngezi Platinum, How Mine and FC Platinum who gave me an opportunity to showcase myself.
“But I was also longing to play for my boyhood team CAPS United and I couldn’t delay even for a split second as soon as I got a call from them.”
Murwira was one of the outstanding players at CAPS United with the team struggling in the Premiership last season.
The Green Machine started the marathon
well but fizzled out as they suffered injury blows to some of their key men like Rodtowards mid-season.
“The goal is to show why we are CAPS United. Last season was not quite ideal for us as players and it was obviously disappointing for the fans,” Murwira said.
“We were expected to do far much better than we did and you know, with our status, that was off.
“We punched well below our weight but football is like that at times.
“The good thing is that we have another chance with almost the same team this year to try and redeem ourselves and bring smiles to our loyal fans.
“We have a group of players who are keen to succeed. We can’t afford to struggle every year. CAPS United is a very big brand and our mentality should resonate with that.
“The competition in the league is never going to be easy but I believe we have the right players with the right attitude and a good coach with the right acumen to lead us to glory.
“At the end of the day, we also need to win some silverware in different competitions that we are going to participate in. We didn’t do justice to our brand last season and this is the right time to correct the wrongs.”
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe has so much belief in Murwira who he says has a positive mentality.
