MUSIC promoter, Josh Hozheri, has revealed that some people approached him to mobilise fellow arts regulatory gurus to sabotage Nicholas Moyo when he was appointed National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director in 2018.

Hozheri said this at a recent dinner party to honour Moyo for his appointment as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Reaction, Arts and Culture.

“When Nick Moyo was appointed National Arts Council of Zimbabwe director, some guys came to me and asked for my opinion on the appointment of a Ndebele guy to this post.

“I told the guys who approached me that I went to a hotel school, and later worked at Zim Sun and Innscor Group.

“I also told them that I once worked in Bulawayo at Alabama Restaurant as a barman where we used to host the likes of Paul Lunga, Jazz Impact, and others.

“I dismissed them and advised them that there was nothing wrong with his appointment,” he said.

Hozheri believes Moyo is the right person for the job as they have come a long way.

“When Moyo was appointed Permanent Secretary (on October 6 last year), I also called him to congratulate him.

“I also called my boy Chipaz so that we could organise something like this dinner as a way of wishing him well.

“I had to approach Albert Nyathi and I am happy that the event went according to plan.

“Your appointment has also come at a time when we are about to launch Bob Nyabinde’s book and the jazz festival.

“Very soon, we will be coming to your office,” he said.

Moyo hailed Hozheri and his team.

“Firstly, when the culprits (Chipaz and Josh) told me of this event, I refused, I thought it was not the right thing to do.

“The two then engaged Albert Nyathi and he finally convinced me to be part of this event.

“Initially, they wanted to hold it at my house but I refused.

“I told them that my house was a private space and advised them to find a venue, which they did.”

Moyo has been in the arts industry for four decades.

He made his first appearance on stage in 1983 in a movie called Cry Freedom.

Moyo took part in several productions on ZBC.
