CAPS PLAYERS GET BONUS FOR FRIENDLY WIN

- Curtworth Masango

CAPS United players are getting a surprise bonus for winning their pre-season friendly match against ambitious Division One side MWOS FC in Norton on Saturday.

The Green Machine edged Lloyd Mutasa’s men 2-1 at Ngoni.

It means lively winger Tendai Matindife, who dumped Dynamos to move to the Green Machine, will get his first winning bonus at Makepekepe.

Godknows Murwira and newboy Lot Chiwunga were on target for the Green Machine.

MWOS have proved a tough team to beat in the pre-season friendlies and emerged from their battle against Dynamos without a scratch.

However, they were beaten by the Green Machine with a goal from Tafadzwa George giving the passionate home crowd something to cheer their spirits.

CAPS United president, Farai Jere, then announced he would pay his players a winning bonus for that friendly victory.

“It’s about creating a winning culture and by paying out this bonus we are telling the players that every game should be won and it doesn’t matter whether it’s a friendly match or a league match.” He said.

“We are thanking them for winning this match and giving our supporters, who travelled from far and wide, something to smile about.

“And, we are saying to them that it’s important to maintain a winning culture and that in football it’s winning that matters.

“We want them to have that positive business attitude all the time and we feel that by rewarding them with a winning bonus they will know that we don’t take these preparatory games lightly.

“There is no point in running the costs of staging such a match if the mission is not about winning the game and, since they won, they have to be rewarded.”

The Green Machine appear to be on a better financial footing this year compared to what has been the case in the past few years.

The financial challenges were the main reason Makepekepe have struggled to mount a strong challenge for the league championship in recent years.

They are the last Harare club to be crowned champions when they won the marathon in 2016.

Midfielder Eric Manokore, who joined CAPS United last season, said:

“As a team we are motivated enough to give ourselves a good run and aim for the title. As a club, we have the capacity to bring back the trophy to Harare and as a squad we have enough talent as I believe we have one of the best squads.”
