CHIPAZ REVELS IN WINNING NAMA GONG

- Trust Khosa

MUSIC promoter, Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, says walking to the winners’ podium at the just-ended National Awards Merit Awards ceremony in Bulawayo was a bonus to his camp.

Chipaz, who won the Outstanding Music Promoter award for the first time in 11 years, said he was happy with the nomination alone.

“To be honest, I was excited and humbled to be recognised and be nominated among the best.

“Winning the overall award came as a bonus to my team since there are some good promoters doing wonders out there.

“This is the second time to win the same award.”

He was the first person to win the gong in 2013 in Bulawayo when it was introduced.

He dedicated the 2013 award to his late friend Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, who died on October 15, 2011.

And, 11 years later, Chipaz was back in the City of Kings to collect the same gong.

“Dominance is my passion and the core mandate is to do what’s best for the industry.

“I chose to be in this industry to serve a purpose and it was not by default by the way.

“I have always wanted to uplift fellow artists and I think I am doing what I enjoy the most.”

He also offered up-and-coming promoters some advice.

“My advice to upcoming promoters is let’s have the mindset to have a better artistic Zimbabwe.

“We learn every day as showbiz dynamics change and, above all we, as seasoned promoters, also want to learn from upcoming promoters as they may come up with new strategies.

“We are very open to exchanging ideas with those who want to see a better artistic Zimbabwe.

“I am one person who is ready to learn from others, especially the new crop of promoters.”
